How to find and search old Perplexity threads (2026)
Lost a good answer from last month? Here's where Perplexity keeps your threads and how to dig them up.
1. Open your History (Library)
Every thread you create while signed in is saved to your History at perplexity.ai/library, and Perplexity says it is kept indefinitely. In the apps, open History from the sidebar.
2. Search, filter, and sort
- Use the search bar on the History page to search your threads. On the Mac app it's a field in the sidebar; on Windows, the magnifying glass at top left.
- Use Type to filter by mode, such as Research.
- Use Sorting to flip between newest and oldest first.
- Check inside your Projects (formerly Spaces) if you filed the thread there.
3. If a thread is missing
- Wrong account: check the email in your settings. Signing in with Google versus email can create two accounts.
- Signed out: threads made while logged out are deleted after 14 days.
- Incognito: incognito threads expire after 24 hours.
- Temporary threads: some threads, for example ones using files, connectors, or Comet's tab context, are marked "Temporary thread" and expire.
- Deleted: deletion is permanent. If you think something vanished on Perplexity's side, contact support via Help, then Contact Support, with the thread URL if you have it.
4. Make old threads easy to find next time
File keepers into a Project, give important threads clear titles, and keep an offline copy of anything you can't afford to lose. Exporting a thread (three dots, then Export as PDF, Markdown, or DOCX) puts it in your own files, where your computer's search can find it.
Want a searchable offline copy of your whole history? ThreadVault, our upcoming Chrome extension (disclosure: we make it), does bulk export to PDF/Word/Notion with Spaces (now Projects) kept as folders. See ThreadVault
