How to get Perplexity threads into Obsidian (2026)

Obsidian reads plain Markdown files, and Perplexity can export a thread as Markdown. So the free route is short: export, drop into your vault, tidy up.

1. Make a folder in your vault

Create something like Perplexity/ inside your Obsidian vault. Use subfolders per topic or per Perplexity Project if you use them.

2. Export each thread as Markdown

  1. Open the thread on perplexity.ai.
  2. Three dots (left of Share) → Export as Markdown.
  3. Move the .md file into your vault folder.

3. Add frontmatter

At the top of each note, add a small YAML block so you can search and sort later:

---
source: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/...
date: 2026-10-26
tags: [perplexity, research]
---

4. Link it into your notes

Add [[wikilinks]] from your project notes to the Perplexity note, and check that citation links still click through. Obsidian's backlinks pane will then show where each piece of research is used.

5. Keep it current

Repeat for new threads weekly. If you have a large backlog, see how to export all your Perplexity threads.

Want your whole Perplexity library as a vault-ready folder? ThreadVault (disclosure: we make it) is a browser extension in pre-launch that bulk-exports your Perplexity threads to Obsidian-ready Markdown plus JSON in one ZIP. It runs locally in your browser, so your chats never touch our servers. $9 one-time. Perplexity export works today; ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini support is coming soon.
