How to export your Perplexity history as JSON (2026)
Perplexity's per-thread export gives you PDF, Markdown or DOCX, not JSON. If you want structured data, you have three routes.
1. Request the official data export
Perplexity offers self-serve data options from your account settings (see Perplexity's Self-Serve Data Options page in its Help/Legal hub). Request an export of your data and download the archive when it's emailed to you. It's the most complete record, but it's raw data rather than tidy documents.
2. Convert Markdown exports
If you only need a few threads, export them as Markdown (three dots → Export as Markdown) and convert with a short script that splits on question/answer headings and pulls the source URLs into a list.
3. Use a bulk tool
Open-source command-line tools on GitHub can log in to your account and save each conversation as JSON plus Markdown. Read the code first; they need your session to work and may break when Perplexity changes its site.
What to keep in the JSON
- Thread title, URL and date
- Each question and answer in order
- Source URLs per answer
- Project/Space name, if any
