Perplexity export limits and workarounds (2026)
Perplexity's built-in export is fine for one thread. Here's where it stops, and what to do about it.
What the built-in export does
From any thread you can export the answer as PDF, Markdown, or DOCX. That's it, one thread at a time.
Limit 1: no bulk export
Perplexity documents no "export all threads" option. Workarounds: request a data export from support (raw data), or use a free community tool. Perplexity Chat Exporter on the Chrome Web Store bulk-saves to Markdown, and the open-source perplexity-exporter (run with npx perplexity-exporter) saves everything to JSON. Both are unofficial, need you to be logged in, and can break when Perplexity changes its site.
Limit 2: no folder structure
Single exports land as loose files. Workaround: create one local folder per Project and save exports into it as you go.
Limit 3: no direct Notion or Google Docs export
Workaround: export DOCX and upload it to Google Drive (it opens in Docs), or export Markdown and import it into Notion. See our Notion and Obsidian guide.
Limit 4: temporary and logged-out threads expire
Logged-out threads go after 14 days and incognito ones after 24 hours, so export them first or redo them while signed in.
Limit 5: rate limits on scrapers
Users of DIY scrapers report hitting Perplexity rate limits after several hundred threads. Run large exports in batches.
