How to export your Claude chats (2026)
Claude has an official account export, but no per-chat "download as Markdown" button.
1. Official data export (free)
- In Claude open Settings, then Privacy.
- Click Export data.
- You get an email with a download link to a ZIP of JSON files containing your conversations.
The JSON is complete but not readable as-is; you need a script or tool to turn it into documents.
2. Single chats
Use the copy button on a response, or a browser extension that saves the open conversation as Markdown or PDF. Fine for a handful of chats.
3. Bulk to Markdown
For hundreds of chats, convert the JSON export with a script, or use a bulk-export extension that writes one Markdown file per chat.
